Breath by Clare Donnelly

Word: breath

Your breath is your life force.

Every moment of every day, you engage in the life-giving process of breathing.

Inhale. Exhale.
Breathe in. Breathe Out.
In. Out.
In. Out.

This beautiful, cyclical system brings air into your lungs and transports it through your body; it takes in what is needed and releases what is not. This system sustains you, maintaining your consciousness whether you are conscious of it or not. It creates harmony within you and keeps you in communion with the world beyond.

When you breathe, you move. Your chest expands, your shoulders shift, your nostrils flare. Your movements are subtle, simple, yet they are part of a complex, intricate system. They are the visible, external signifier of an invisible, essential process occurring within.

Sit for a while with your breath. Feel the change in your body as the air flows through you. In. Out. In. Out.

Look around the room. Watch the people around you. Can you see their breathing?
Realize that they are engaged in the same life-giving process as you are.
Recognize that you share the same space, breathe the same air, contain the same vital energy.
Remember that you are connected.
Feel one with all living things, because you are.

You are here. Because you are here, our work can breathe. Your presence, your movements, your energy give life to this piece. So come, stay awhile. Breathe easy.
