Frank Reaugh: In retrospect

From August 4 through November 29, the Harry Ransom Center hosts the exhibition Frank Reaugh: Landscapes of Texas and the American West. It showcases more than 100 artworks by renowned artist Frank Reaugh (pronounced “Ray”) drawn from the Ransom Center’s own collection as well as public and private collections from around the state. The companion book Windows on the West: The Art of Frank Reaugh, edited by Curator of Art Peter F. Mears, complements the exhibition, and published by the Ransom Center and UT Press. Excerpted below is the foreward to the book, “Frank Reaugh in Retrospect,” written by Ron Tyler. In it, Tyler reflects on Reaugh’s life and the context of Reaugh’s distinguished career. Preserving “The Eyes of Texas”

The Harry Ransom Center recently treated a document near and dear to its home. The original manuscript for “The Eyes of Texas,” the alma mater for The University of Texas at Austin, was in need of conservation.  The Texas Exes, the alumni organization which holds the manuscript, brought the framed artifact to the Ransom Center’s conservation lab for treatment.  [Read more…] about Preserving “The Eyes of Texas”

UK postgraduates receive fellowships to work with Ransom Center collections

The Harry Ransom Center will host six scholars from the United Kingdom as part of the 2015-2016 International Placement Scheme conducted and funded by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The AHRC provides fellowships to doctoral students and early-career researchers from the United Kingdom to study at international libraries and research institutions.
