The M-NeD RET is summer internship for middle school teachers that focuses on nanotechnology, engineering, research and curriculum development. The 5-6 week summer internship takes place in one of UT Austin’s cutting edge engineering research labs and imbues teachers with a deeper understanding of research and the scientific process. Teachers work alongside scientists and engineers, performing innovative research while developing inquiry-based lesson modules to take back into their classrooms.
The RET program goals are student driven and teacher focused supporting teachers’ objectives to build a diverse pool of students excited about STEM. Inspiring students requires teachers equipped with research-based experiences to develop and deliver engineering-focused lessons. The RET experience gives teachers the tools and the community to lead and inspire their students to follow academic and career pathways in science and engineering.
