SALSA will take place on January 17-18, 2025 for the second year after restarting post-COVID hiatus. In its new iteration, the conference is spearheaded by graduate students in the program of Linguistic Anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin, with support from other departments. While we will welcome submissions relating to any of the many ways that language is used in society, we will prioritize submissions that utilize a more anthropological view on language use.
The conference will feature speakers from universities across the country (plus a few from across the pond), at both the graduate and faculty level. Each speaker’s presentation will explore the ways that language is utilized in our world, including the use of technology and media, language ideologies and identity building, linguistic landscapes, language revitalization, embodied conversation and narrative analysis, as well as language play and verbal art!
