Shared on behalf of Dr. Barber with the British, Irish, & Empire Studies
I write to introduce the newly-constituted Program in British, Irish and Empire Studies (BIES) which replaces the old British Studies Program. One of the innovations we are most excited about is a competitive fellowship opportunity designed to help both undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research activities on topics and in areas that fall under our rubric. Students in any discipline whose work relates in any way to studies of Britain, its former (or indeed current, if tiny) Empire, and Ireland are eligible to apply for financial assistance. We will offer up to $500 for undergraduate and $1,000 for graduate projects, and the funding may be used for any legitimate and pertinent research activity.
Please encourage your students to take advantage of this opportunity. Further details and instructions on how to submit application materials can be found on the BIES website at https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/bies/funding-opportunities/undergraduate-research-fellowships.php.
The deadline for applications is November 8, and we very much hope to see a healthy number of applications from your students. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at philippa@austin.utexas.edu should you require any further information. I look forward to meaningful collaborations between your department and BIES going forward.
