Question: Do you want to conduct an inferential test or do you want to provide descriptive statistics?
In an inferential test, you’ll be making a statement about a population of interest based on a sample drawn from that population.
For example: I want to make a statement about smoking being related to cancer. So I took a sample of 200 smokers and non-smokers and found that the smokers had a higher rate of cancer than the non-smokers.
You can use descriptive statistics to summarize and display sample data so that it is easily readable and visually appealing.
For example: I asked 100 people how many hours they spent working out each week and I want to summarize the values I got from my sample so that people have an idea of the distribution.
