This past semester our three True Colors® workshops – Personal Success, Communication and Teambuilding – were presented to staff. Many thanks to all involved in this Division-wide effort. They include 70 new staff who learned their True Colors® spectrum and attributes, 27 staff who explored their communication styles and Texas Parents staff who piloted the teambuilding workshop. We are grateful for the facilitators who presented all of these sessions and developed the new curriculum. We also appreciate the University Unions staff who provided beverages and the ideal locations to meet.
The evaluations and feedback from the fall sessions indicate that our staff enjoys learning and applying the True Colors® program. As True Colors® founder Don Lowry states, “…When you share a working, natural understanding of (your and) others’ core values and needs, you have the basis to communicate, motivate and achieve common goals with… dignity, efficacy and mutual respect.”
Dr. Gale Stuart, Director of Assessment, conducted a six-month follow-up survey of 742 staff members who attended the True Colors® Personal Success workshops last spring. She noted in the survey report that the training “was successful in making staff aware of their own personality and work style, the personalities and workstyles of their co-workers, in helping staff accept co-workers with a personality and work style that is different from their own, and in giving staff a better sense of how to interact with different personalities and work styles.”
Additionally, she said “over 50 percent of respondents felt the training had given them a common language with their co-workers and helped them bond with others in their work area.” Many respondents also commented that the training was fun and a good experience.
We look forward to continuing this fun and educational program to help Division staff develop a deeper understanding of communication and teambuilding. We will announce a new staff registration process for the two-hour workshops in February, which will include all three True Colors® workshops available in the spring semester.
Stay tuned for more True Colors®!
