The TCRSS Center’s mission is to provide an environment that strengthens and expands collaborative intervention research in nursing and related disciplines by developing, testing, evaluating and disseminating innovative self-management solutions to improve patient-centered care and health outcomes of people with chronic conditions.
We aim to create synergy that will facilitate the development of nurse scientists who execute high-impact projects in self-management science by providing them with research training and resources as well as expert mentoring in a wide range of approaches such as bio-behavior, evolving technology (e.g., engineering, computer science), business principles, and marketing methods.
Community Based Participatory Research
We employ a community-based participatory research (CBPR) which is a partnership approach to research that equitably involves community members, organizational representatives, researchers, and others in all aspects of the research process, with all partners in the process contributing expertise and sharing in the decision-making and ownership.
We practice transdisciplinary research which is conducted by investigators from different disciplines working jointly to create new conceptual, theoretical, methodological, and translational innovations that integrate and move beyond discipline-specific approaches to improve the chronic disease self-management capacities of individuals, families, and communities.
Transformational Policy and Practice
We seek to transform chronic disease self-management by collaborating with the community, healthcare providers and scientists of different disciplines to test new theories, models, and approaches to improve health outcomes. By developing and sharing this knowledge with clinicians, community partners, and policy makers, we aim to influence and implement healthcare practice and policy and also push the boundaries of nursing science.
We cultivate innovation through positive reinforcement of forward thinking by encouraging team members to become part of the conversation and collaboratively build on one another’s ideas. We incite fresh approaches by being transparent and fostering ongoing dialogue.
