Our Texas Higher-Ed Reentry Handbook is a guide for continuing your education after release. It’s designed specifically for formerly incarcerated students in Texas and offers practical, easy-to-follow information for navigating college and beyond.
The handbook includes:
How to apply to college – including choosing between community colleges and universities
Information on financial aid and scholarships, including FAFSA guidance and programs for students with criminal records
Transferring credits – understanding how to carry over your UT coursework
Placement tests and test prep – including the TSI (Texas Success Initiative) and other entrance exams
Technology basics – how to set up an email, use a computer, and access online learning platforms
County-by-county resource lists – with local contacts for housing, legal aid, food assistance, and more
Tips for returning to the classroom – including study skills, navigating campus life, and requesting accommodations
