Intern for Teach Healthier After School

Position Overview
The Intern for Teach Healthier After School will be either a (A) part-time role or (B) a set of responsibilities included in the job description of the Teach Healthier After School Instructors. The Intern for Teach Healthier After School will oversee the progress and growth of the IT’S TIME TEXAS Teach Healthier After School program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate, organize, and execute projects for Teach Healthier After School
  • Facilitate candidate selection and interviews for Teach Healthier After School Instructors
  • Publicize job opportunities through online postings, recruiting fairs, networking, etc.
  • Attend monthly trainings to help improve teach healthier after school programs
  • Help design curriculum for Teach Healthier After School
  • Help with searching for funding through grants, sponsorships and donations
  • Help with promotions regarding Teach Healthier After School
  • Manage keeping history of the program
  • Organize and help facilitate instructor meetings
  • Help record all instructor evaluations into useable data
  • Conduct Instructor/Supervisor evaluations
  • Coach a variety of activities, sports & skills
  • Develop students’ leadership skills via assigned roles within their teams
  • Provide children special attention in a quality health and fitness based program

 Critical Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and leverage resources accordingly
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Be able to be flexible

 Minimum Requirements

  • One year minimum of course credits obtained working towards Bachelors’ degree
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Mandatory attendance of New Intern Orientation

Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program

The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program has been established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The program aims to increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at DoD laboratories. Upon selection, awardees are assigned to the DoD laboratory where he/she will be expected to serve as a summer intern and complete a period of post-graduation employment service as a DoD civilian. Applications are due Dec. 1.

TDHCA is seeking an intern to assist in research related to legislative and policy issues. This internship offers exposure to government programs and services, housing and community services activities and needs in Texas, and the state legislative process, particularly the budget process. College coursework in public affairs, government, political science, planning, or similar field(s) preferred.
