The Prevention Research Lab is looking for undergraduate research assistants!

The Prevention Research Lab, operated by Dr. Keryn E. Pasch in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education, is searching for undergraduate research assistants for the Spring 2014 Semester. We have two opportunities this semester for undergraduates research assistants (URAs). For the Fast Food MEDIA project, URAs will work on a study, using eye-tracking technology and quantitative surveys, to better understand the influence of fast food television commercials on 350 children aged 2-11. URAs will help administer the study protocol with the children and parents, code and enter data, and assist with other research tasks as needed.  For the Outdoor MEDIA project, URAs will assist with coding of alcohol and tobacco advertisements. Additional research opportunities such as literature searching, transcribing, and data summaries may be available.

REQUIREMENTS:

A flexible spring schedule with at least a four hour block of time available on at least two evenings a week is preferred for the Fast Food MEDIA project. We will also collect data on weekends so availability on at least one Saturday and Sunday a month is needed.  For the Outdoor MEDIA project, at least a three hour block of time during the day, three days a week, is preferred.

Willingness and ability to work with youth.

Prior research experience is a plus but not necessary.

BENEFITS:

Hands-on experience with the research process, with an emphasis on the relationship between media and health outcomes among youth.

Bridging Disciplines, Nutrition, or other research credit offered if you qualify – please let us know if you are considering BDP credit or other research credit when you contact us.

If you are interested in joining the Prevention Research Lab as an undergraduate research assistant this spring, please contact the Natalie Golaszewski (ngolaszewski@utexas.edu) for additional information or to set up an interview.
