Alex Rockey (Scenic and Costume Design)(he/him) Was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He is a queer designer who loves working on any and all projects, being able to include his point of view while still giving the heart of the story every time. He loves being in the room and having the ability to work collaboratively as the Scenic Designer, Costume Designer, both, Assistant, Associate, etc. etc. He has worked on Musicals, Operas, Plays, and more. Some credits include …but you could’ve held my hand (UT Austin Department of Theatre and Dance, Scenic Design), Proving Up (Butler Opera Center, Scenic Design), Assisting and Costume Designing for Fall for Dance (UT Austin Department of Theatre and Dance), being a Costume Shop Staff Member at Maine State Music Theatre, and a Scenery Apprentice at The Santa Fe Opera.
Alex works in a mindset that we all do this craft because we want to. We are constantly learning in life to create new and innovative conventions whether we are 20 or 90 years old. He loves being able to take design and bring the audience outside of everyday life. He relishes in making theatre an escape and a place to heal, grow, and experience. His thesis is on SB12 and performance as protest. For this, he produced, hosted, and designed a Drag Show protest on campus. This included humor, his drag debut, and legislative education on how to help Drag performers, trans* individuals, and the rest of the LGBTQIA+ community.
