Daniel Ruiz Bustos (Scenic Design)(He/Him/Él), a proud Mexican Scenic Designer, is currently in his second year as an MFA candidate at the Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas at Austin. With over a decade of experience spanning film, interactive media, drama, dance, and music, Daniel’s interdisciplinary approach to design has garnered acclaim for its innovation and creativity.
His recent works include the visually captivating productions Very Blue Light (UTNT – Texas Theatre and Dance, 2023) and the dynamic Fall for Dance series, featuring Witchcraft, Failures in Holding the Multiple, and Pop Refuge (Texas Theatre and Dance, 2022). Noteworthy among his achievements is his design for Choreomaniac, 1518 (UTNT – Texas Theatre and Dance, 2024), which explores the intersection of movement and space, showcasing Daniel’s fascination with dance and experimental performance.
Daniel’s academic pursuits extend to his thesis project focused on Live Scenography—a groundbreaking concept that integrates scenic design with bodily movement to redefine the theatrical experience. His creative endeavors also include film, with his work Eva/Ana being showcased at the Sound of Silent Film Festival in Chicago in 2016.
Daniel holds a Postgraduate Specialization in Scenic Design from CENTRO and a BEng in Computer Science and Technology with a concentration in Filmmaking from Tecnológico de Monterrey. His diverse background and commitment to artistic innovation reflect his dedication to the craft of scenic design.
Looking ahead, Daniel is set to bring his creative vision to Stage Kiss at the Jones Theatre, Southwestern University, in April 2024, continuing to explore new artistic horizons and sharing his passion for transformative design with audiences.
