Mission

Welcome to MASLab, the Metamaterials and Advanced Structures Lab at UT Austin! Our mission is to create mechanical metamaterials and advanced structures with innovative properties that can be used to upgrade existing structures, as well as create new structures that are more resilient to extreme demands.

Why?

Today, civil engineers are being tasked with minimizing resource consumption while both maintaining aging infrastructure and building new infrastructure to support growing demands. Advanced materials and structures with innovative geometry and topology have been implemented in a wide spectrum of applications from medical devices to aerospace structures. We believe these materials and structures, along with advances in fabrication and additive manufacturing, can help civil engineers address current grand challenges as well, both on Earth and eventually beyond!
