Meet Our Austin Region Leader
My name is Amber and I currently serve as the Austin area region leader for the Veteran Spouse network. My ultimate goal in this role is to help partners, spouses and families adapt to civilian life as smoothly as possible.
My spouse and I transitioned from military service, quite roughly, in 2005. We moved from Ft. Campbell, KY where he served as an Airborne Infantryman with the 101st Airborne-Air Assault, directly to Austin, Texas. We had with us three young children, one newly diagnosed with multiple severe disabilities, and a child on the way. My husband had no transition training from the Army, he quite literally left the battlefield of the Operation Iraqi Freedom campaign and became a civilian.
I hope to share what helped us successfully navigate our transition and adjust to Austin. I also hope to be an ally in finding resources to support you along the way. I want to convey how important allowing ourselves to be in the community was to our transition success, how important asking for what we needed was, and understanding that it’s all part of the process. I can’t wait to meet you!
