NCWIT is now accepting applications for the 2019 Aspirations in Computing awards. The AiC Awards are divided into three categories: 9th-12th grade women, 9th-12th grade educators, and collegiate women. Let’s make sure the Texas computer science community is well represented! Teachers should encourage young women in CS to apply and then be sure to apply yourself!

Teachers, there is still time to get your students involved with the 2018 Congressional App Challenge
We were thrilled to have CAC Director, Rachel Décoste join us for the 2018 WeTeach_CS Summit and take time to discuss the Congressional App Challenge with the Texas CS teachers in attendaance. Now it’s time for Texas CS teachers to step up and make sure your students get registered for the contest! The registration deadline is Monday, September 10th and apps must be submitted by October 15th. CAC rules are fairly simple when it comes to how students can participate and what they can submit, so there’s definitely still time to get involved with this year’s CAC!

Computational Thinking (CT) skills are crucial for students to develop for all 21st century careers and the earlier students being learning CT the better. Knowing this, Launch CS works to build capacity in schools through intensive, interactive, and engaging CS professional development which integrates computational thinking skills with core K-8 classes. This is why we’ve joined with Launch CS to offer this 3-day course to prepare teachers to become effective and confident K-8 computer science teachers. During the training, teachers learn about computational thinking and as well as computer science content pedagogy.
