Building a CS for All focused computer science program at your school involves getting teachers certified and supported with professional development. It also requires recruiting an excited and inclusive group of students to fill those classes. And perhaps most importantly, it takes the active support of school and district administrators in order to meet the rest of your school’s CS needs. This is why we’re happy to share this administrator oriented event being hosted by our parent organization, the Center for STEM Education at UT Austin. So feel free to pass this along to your own administrators, so they can add it to their own summer plans.
Understanding the need for greater involvement by principals, superintendents, and other administrators in leading and supporting the work of K-12 STEM educators, the Center for STEM Education is hosting its first STEM Leadership Summit in Austin, TX on Tuesday, June 27. The purpose of this event is to bring together administrators from across the state to spend a day engaged in collaborative experiences focused on the unique needs of STEM leaders.
Topics will include
- T-TESS in the STEM Classroom
- Building an Inclusive K-12 Computer Science Pipeline
- Leadership in STEM schools: Principal Panel
- Math Pathways: Practical Strategies for Preparing ALL Students for Post-Secondary Success
There will also be plenty of opportunity for attendees to network and share ideas.
Because the STEM Leadership Summit will be held during the TRC Annual Meeting, STEM Leadership Summit attendees will have the opportunity to experience some of the activities of the TRC Annual Meeting and get a feel for what a large state-wide PD network is all about.
Special Activities will include
- Luncheon featuring Dr. Penny Schwinn, Deputy Commissioner of Academics, TEA and presentation of Teaching and Mentoring awards to TRC Teachers.
- Showcase and Reception celebrating Texas STEM Superheroes. The TRC Showcase has been described as a science fair held at a carnival and allows TRC teachers to have fun as they show off what they’ve accomplished over the past year.
- Dinner featuring inspirational Keynote Speaker Liz Murray, author of Breaking Night: A Memoir of Forgiveness, Survival, and My Journey from Homeless to Harvard. Click for more information about Liz Murray
