Strauss Center Student Worker Program

The Strauss Center’s Student Worker Program offers graduate and undergraduate students at the LBJ School and University of Texas the opportunity to be exposed to current topics in global affairs, network with top experts and gain practical professional skills. Students may work on major events, program initiatives, communications, and outreach projects and may also assist with short-term tasks or specific daily needs of the Strauss Center.

Positions are available for both graduate and undergraduate students. Students are expected to work approximately 10 hours per week, with flexible schedules to be structured around academic considerations and in conjunction with the intern’s supervisor.

Available Positions

Online Media Intern—Undergraduate

The Strauss Center seeks an Online Media Intern to assist in managing the Strauss Center’s online presence, with a particular focus on developing video content for the web. Responsibilities will include:

  • Working with Strauss Center and LBJ School staff to create new web video pieces to develop awareness of Strauss Center researchers, fellows and programs
  • Assisting with updating content on Strauss Center social media sites
  • Researching social media strategies and practices of peer institutions

Applicants should have experience in developing video projects for the web, including planning, pre-production and editing (Final Cut Pro preferred). Strong writing and communications skills are critical. Experience with social media, content management systems and conducting on-camera interviews is preferred.

This is an unpaid position of approximately 10 hours/week.

Program Intern—Undergraduate

The Strauss Center seeks a Program Intern to serve as logistical liaison for the Distinguished Scholars program and to assist with other program logistics. Responsibilities will include:

  • Organizing Distinguished Scholar monthly meetings:
    • Determine schedule availability
    • Make room reservations and catering orders
    • Develop and distribute agenda

  • Assist with logistics and management for other Strauss Center programs, including scheduling and event planning.

Applicants should have experience in administrative procedures. Event or travel planning experience is preferred. Applicants should have strong writing, communications and office computer skills.

This is an unpaid position of approximately 10 hours/week.
