CM2 is excited to participate in the Girls in STEM Conference 2022, hosted by Girlstart.
Girlstart’s Girls in STEM is a one-day conference for 4th-8th grade girls and throughout the day, they will attend three hands-on workshops led by women in STEM fields. This year’s conference will take place on Saturday, April 9th at Connally High School. Girlstart’s top priority is the safety of participants, staff, volunteers, and community. To provide maximum COVID-19 safety and STEM fun, Girlstart is limiting the number of conference registrations, and asking all volunteers & presenters to be vaccinated, as well as requiring masks of registrants, staff, and volunteers. CM2 Call for Volunteers
For Girls in STEM, CM2 will be participating with the hands-on project called Build A City! This project involves participants creating their own city out of candy! Using tootsie rolls, gumdrops, smarties, and more, this lesson encourages kids to explore the complexity of cities, and helps them understand the impact of people’s everyday decisions on the places where they live, work, and play.
CM2 is seeking individuals to act as project volunteers to work directly with kids and their chaperones throughout this event. We will be doing our Build A City project during Workshop I from 11:10 AM – 12:10 PM.
- Project volunteer tasks include helping the kids with the Build A City! project, and encouraging kids to engage in critical thinking about the city-building process.
- Project volunteers should be aged 18 years and up, but do not have to have a STEM background to participate!
- In keeping with Girlstart participation requirements, all volunteers must be vaccinated and be masked throughout the event.
