Texas Dementia Education Workforce Collaboratory

The Texas Dementia Education Workforce Collaboratory is a state-funded initiative led by The University of Texas at Austin to strengthen dementia care education across health professions. Through an interprofessional curriculum on brain health, early detection and treatment, biomarkers, and team-based care, the project prepares students to care for persons living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and to support their caregivers.

This curriculum is designed for use across nursing, social work, medicine, pharmacy, speech-language pathology, and other health professions programs.

ADRD is a growing national and Texas workforce priority: 6.9 million Americans age 65+ and 459,000 Texans age 65+ are living with Alzheimer’s, yet many health professionals report limited dementia care training and confidence. This project responds to that gap by preparing future providers across disciplines to promote brain health, and early detection and treatment, support caregivers, and deliver collaborative, person-centered dementia care.
