Lab Alum Dr. John Blazeck wins NSF CAREER Award
Congrats to Alum Dr. John Blazeck on his recent NSF CAREER Award!
During his time at The University of Texas at Austin, he trained in both the Alper and Georgiou labs, where he worked on projects ranging from synthetic biology and metabolic engineering to cancer immunotherapy. In the Georgiou lab, Blazeck helped develop engineered enzymes that could reshape the tumor microenvironment by removing metabolites that suppress immune cells, opening new possibilities for treating cancer. His work contributed to a growing field of research focused on helping the body’s own immune system fight tumors more effectively. Today, Blazeck continues this translational approach as a faculty member, combining protein engineering, synthetic biology, and immunology to develop new therapies for cancer and other diseases.
