Mohammad Reza Ghorbanali Zadegan
PhD Student, Transportation Engineering

Mohammad Reza Ghorbanali Zadegan is a PhD student in the Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin and a member of the INSPIRE Lab. His research focuses on sustainable freight systems, hydrogen infrastructure, transportation-energy system integration, infrastructure planning, and multi-agent optimization.

His work develops optimization and planning frameworks for low-carbon freight transportation, including hydrogen supply chains, electric and fuel cell freight systems, and coupled infrastructure investment and operational decision-making.

Research Overview

Reza’s research investigates how freight transportation systems can transition toward cleaner and more resilient energy pathways. His recent work studies how hydrogen production, distribution, and refueling infrastructure can be co-optimized with freight operations to support zero-emission heavy-duty transportation.

He is particularly interested in the interaction between logistics systems and regional energy infrastructure, including how planning decisions for hydrogen, charging, and renewable generation affect freight cost, network performance, and long-term decarbonization outcomes.

His broader methodological interests include mixed-integer optimization, infrastructure co-optimization, decentralized and multi-agent decision-making, and scenario-based planning under uncertainty.
