Consider applying for a FLAS academic year or summer fellowship through the Center for European Studies. These are very prestigious and substantial scholarships.
Roughly 25% of the awards must go to students who are working on priority languages as defined by the Department of Education. The only strictly European language
that is defined as a priority is Portuguese. However, the Center is very much hoping to award fellowships to students who wish to work on Russian, Arabic, Hindi, etc. (languages that are, of course, “priority” for the Dept. of Ed.) so long as the students’ study of the language applies to their work on European area studies.
trust you’ll have some students who fit the bill.
Beyond that, 75% of the fellowships will be awarded to students who are not working on priority languages.
