Liberal Arts Week 2012

The Liberal Arts Council, the official student voice for students in the College of Liberal Arts, will be hosting its annual Liberal Arts Week! The theme is “You Know You’re in Liberal Arts When…,” and the week will consist of various events listed below that showcase the college. Come out for free food, t-shirts, sunglasses, water bottles, and more!

Liberal Arts Council is proud to be partnered with The New York Times and the Senate of College Councils for Liberal Arts Week 2012.

Essay Contest – Hosted by THE LIBERATOR news-magazine

The winning essay will receive a $250 prize as provided by THE LIBERATOR. 

Who: Open to all students registered within the College of Liberal Arts

What: Submit a 500-750 word (please no more than 750 words) essay for consideration by the staff of THE LIBERATOR answering the following prompt:  

How would your liberal arts education influence your personal platform for the presidency of the United States?

Where: Please send all submissions to THE LIBERATOR e-mail address at utlacpromotions@gmail.com. The author of the winning submission will receive a $250 prize provided by THE LIBERATOR news-magazine, and the winning essay will be published in THE LIBERATOR‘s election issue on October 8! 

When: All submissions are due to THE LIBERATOR e-mail address at utlacpromotions@gmail.com by 5 PM on Monday, September 24.

Please include your full name, major, classification, and address in the body of the e-mail. The winner will be announced by the following week. 

 

The Amazing Presidential Race” –

An Open Discussion on the 2012 Presidential Election

 When: Tuesday, September 25 at 6PM

Where: Mezes (MEZ) 1.306

Interested in the upcoming Presidential Election? The Liberal Arts Council presents an open discussion with Dr. Albertson, Dr. Edwards, and Dr. Henson regarding the latest on the exciting 2012 Presidential Campaign. Come engage in discussion about one of the year’s most interesting topics and be better prepared for the election in November. Tiff’s treats and drinks will be offered! *This event is open to all UT students!

New York Times Jeopardy

When: Wednesday, September 26 from 6-7 PM

Where: Painter (PHR) 2.110

 Come out and test your knowledge with New York Times representative Paul Wilson! The event will allow all in attendance to participate in an educational yet exciting and competitive manner. There will be a variety of snacks and beverages.

 

“You Know You’re in Liberal Arts When … You Reside in the Six Pack.”

When: Monday, September 24 (midday)

Where: Near the Six Pack

Love being in the College of Liberal Arts? Come take a picture with the College Ambassadors committee of the Liberal Arts Council. Students will write why they love being a part of CoLA on white board and then have their photo taken. Each photo will have the chance to be part of a collage to be displayed in the new Liberal Arts Building!

Voter Registration

When: Monday, September 24 through Wednesday, September 26 from 10 AM-2 PM

Where: West Mall

The Campus and Community Focus committee of the Liberal Arts Council will be registering voters for the upcoming elections. Be a part and take pride in being registered to vote!

 

“You Know You’re in Liberal Arts When… You Already Need to D-Stress!”

When: Wednesday, September 26 from 10 AM-2 PM

Where: West Mall Rally Space

Stressed? Already worried about upcoming exams? Feeling the pressure? Come out and learn what kinds of destress resources that UT offers to students! Meet with some Counseling and Mental Health Center representatives, learn about the Mind and Body Lab, beat out your stress with bongo drums, come pick up some relaxing goodies, and even win some fantastic prizes!
