Plan II/LAH Rome Study Abroad Info Session Tonight 5 – 6 pm CLA 1.302D

The Plan II and Liberal Arts Honors Program is thrilled to announce the return the Rome Study Abroad Program during the summer of 2014!  Led by legendary Professor Karl Galinsky, 15-18 students will have the incredible opportunity to live, study and experience life abroad in Rome, Italy.

Austin Connect Speaker Series

Austin Connect is beginning its inaugural Speaker Series this semester and is welcoming new participants to attend! If you are a female at UT Austin, please take a look.

On October 1st at 6:30 p.m. we welcome Michelle Glaze, the Executive Director of Strategic Giving at Dell, to help us kick off our series. Confirmed speakers for the series also include Gloria Brown Oliver, VP and investment banker at Charles Schwab, and Andrea Sparks, Legislative Public Policy Director and Marketing Director at CASA (http://texascasa.org/).

At the Charles Schwab event, appetizers will be provided and the Austin Branch hiring manager will be in attendance, so business casual attire is required.

Grants from the Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies

The Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies is happy to announce that we will award a limited number of matching grants to undergraduate and graduate UT students who are pursuing research in Jewish Studies. For the 2013–2014 academic year, awards are capped at $700.

Interested applicants may submit a proposal any time throughout the 2013–2014 academic year; funds must be used by August 31, 2014. For more information, please click here.

Advise TX College Advising Corps Internship Opportunity

College Adviser Intern – Fall 2013

Are you interested in public service?  Do you want to help students go to college?  Do you have a few hours a week to spare?  If you answered yes, then the Advise TX College Advising Corps has an immediate internship opportunity for you!

Advise TX seeks to increase the number of first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students realize their dream of attending college, and we are currently seeking UT students who are interested in shadowing and supporting the efforts of current Advise TX Advisers at Reagan and Lanier High Schools in Austin.  Interns will work on various projects as directed by the Adviser and receive on-going professional development in the field of college access.

Potential Projects include:                                                                          

·  Assisting students with college admissions applications

·  Researching scholarship opportunities and assisting students with scholarship applications

·  Proofreading and providing feedback on college admissions essays

·  Participate in 3 professional development sessions on topics related to college access and advising

·  General administrative duties as necessary

Qualifications 

·  Effective communication skills

·  Strong attention to detail

·  Reliable transportation to and from assigned high school

·  Current undergraduate student status

·  Juniors and seniors preferred but will consider other class levels

·  An interest in college access programs

·  Advise TX welcomes students of all majors

Internship Dates

The selected candidate will be able to commit 6-8 hours a week between 8am-5pm. The internship is unpaid, but provides an excellent opportunity for those interested in joining Advise TX as a full-time staff member to gain experience as a college adviser. The ideal candidate will begin no later than the week of October 7th and work through the beginning of December.
