Athletics Tutor Position

The University of Texas at Austin’s Intercollegiate Athletics Department is looking for students to fill Academic Tutor positions. A description for the position is provided below, along with a link to the UT Athletics job posting with instructions on how to apply.

Tutors work with students on mastering course specific content and are hired according to the subject area needs of the Intercollegiate Athletics Department. Tutors are scheduled as needed and do not have a guaranteed number of work hours per week. Ideal Tutor candidates will have prior teaching or tutoring experience at the university level as well as a strong and complete working knowledge of the applicable field of study.

In addition to scheduled work hours, Academic Tutors are required to attend an orientation session at the beginning of the semester as well as several scheduled meetings throughout the semester. Academic Tutors must possess the ability to work positively with students within the boundaries and standards set by the Intercollegiate Athletics Department at The University of Texas and the NCAA.

*Note: These are part-time positions and are paid on an hourly basis. They do not meet the criteria needed for in-state tuition or benefits at the University.

Fall Auditions for Foot in the Door Theatre

Thursday September 10 & Friday September 11

If you are interested in acting, tech, or have any interest in our company at all, come see us at auditions!

Auditions consist of cold readings from the plays, so you don’t have to prepare anything. Bring yourself, bring some friends, bring a pen/pencil, and be ready to play. You only need to come to one night to be considered, but coming to both doesn’t hurt!

Interested in learning about public policy and public service first hand by living, learning, and interning in Washington, D.C., for a fall or spring semester?

Students compete for $1,500 at the Texas Student Research Showdown

All undergraduate researchers at The University of Texas at Austin are invited to compete for $1,500 in the Texas Student Research Showdown, a video and presentation competition this fall.

In the first round of the Showdown, entrants will create 2-minute videos about their research, to be voted on by UT students. In the final round, the top six students will give 6-minute research presentations to a live audience and judging panel. Winners will receive scholarships to recognize their excellence in research communication. A series of workshops offers support at every step of the process. The 2015 Texas Student Research Showdown Final Round is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 at 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Avaya Auditorium (POB 2.302).

Why enter?

We want to help UT’s top students sell their ideas—and their stories as researchers—to a general audience. All entrants will walk away with a 2-minute video that explains their work to friends, family, grad school committees, and future employers. If your video is in the top six, you’ll take part in the Final Round live competition on Nov. 12. A panel of judges will award scholarship prizes for 1st ($1,500), 2nd ($750), and 3rd ($250) place. Prizes will be awarded based on communication skill and the merit of the research.

Why short videos and mini-presentations?

Short videos are ideal for communicating on social media, and mini-presentations of a style similar to short TED talks are perfect for telling the narrative of your work without overwhelming a general audience. If you’ve never communicated in these formats before, that’s okay—we’ll help you learn how. Attend one of our workshops on making a knockout video and talk.

Who can enter?

The Showdown is open to any current UT undergraduate involved in research or creative activity in any major. Your work can be an independent project, or a collaboration with a professor to which you have made substantive contributions.

What are the deadlines?

First Round: Video submissions are due Oct. 5. Voting will take place Oct. 7-21.
Final Round: The live competition will take place Thursday, Nov. 12 at 3:30 p.m.

Test Preparation Instructor Positions

We are seeking test preparation instructors for our GRE and SAT classes.  These are part-time positions with classes once per week on Sundays.  We seek intelligent, charismatic instructors who have both top test scores and excellent teaching skills.  Our company has a social mission to provide top caliber test preparation courses at a value price.  Team Sherwood is committed to the social responsibility of accessible test preparation courses: Everyone deserves to put their best score out there.

Salary: $30/hour for GRE and/or SAT classroom instruction.

 

Qualifications

Education: Current graduate or professional student (Ph.D. (or equivalent), Master’s, J.D.); or Completed Ph.D. (or equivalent), J.D., or Master’s degree.

Test Scores: Top-tier test scores on one of the following: GRE, GMAT, LSAT, or SAT.

Teaching Experience: Have taught at least one semester/quarter lecture, lab, or discussion, etc. class.  Prior university teaching experience is required.

Quantitative and Verbal Skills: Must have BOTH excellent math and verbal/writing skills.  Sherwood Test Prep Instructors teach the entire course.

Consistent Sunday Commitment: We seek team players who are flexible and can teach on consecutive Sundays throughout the entire year.  We only take off four weekends per year (those corresponding to): Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.  Instructors can teach from 3 to 6 hours per weekend.
