The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies/CREEES is now accepting applications for various scholarships for studying abroad/traveling, professional development, and language training. Browse the options below to see if you qualify for any of our funding opportunities!

McWilliams Scholarship for Russian Studies

Deadline: March 1, 2018

The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies is offering competitive scholarships ranging from $500-1,500 to be used for the study of Russian language and culture, professional development or research related to Russia or the former Soviet Union in any field. Travel may take place during summer or the academic year.  These funds must be used to cover travel, housing, tuition or other related costs while abroad, or for domestic travel relevant to Russia or the former Soviet Union.

Czech Studies Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2018

The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies is offering competitive scholarships of $2,500 to be used for the study of Czech language over the summer.  These funds must be used to cover travel, housing, tuition or other related costs for studying Czech language abroad (summer programs must be at least 3 weeks).

Polish Studies Endowment Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2018The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies is offering competitive scholarships ranging from $500–1,500 to be used for the study of Polish language and culture, or research related to Poland in any field. Travel may take place for summer or during the academic year. These funds must be used to cover travel, housing, tuition or other related costs while in Poland.

Professional Development Funding

Deadline: March 1, 2018CREEES Professional Development Awards are available to students in ANY major at UT Austin who are interested in professional development in the realm of Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies. Applications to participate in professional development activities MUST be somehow related to the CREEES region, namely: the former Soviet sphere of influence, Central/Eastern Europe, Southeast Europe/former Ottoman Empire, Central Asia, the Caucasus, etc.

Awards are meant to help cover travel costs associated with competitive internships, job interviews, research/fieldwork, or presenting at academic conferences. Up to $1,000 per student will be awarded to cover international travel costs or $500 per student for domestic travel costs.

Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships

Deadline: February 9, 2018CREEES offers FLAS Fellowships to fund highly competitive graduate  and undergraduate students for the study of regional foreign languages, including:

Bosnian • Bulgarian • Croatian • Czech • Persian/Tajik • Polish • Romanian • Russian • Serbian •Turkish • Ukrainian •Yiddish  • and more!*

Students should consider applying for FLAS Fellowships with any applicable FLAS-granting centers at UT, such as the Center for European Studies and the South Asia Institute, or for summer FLAS awards at other FLAS-granting institutions as relevant to their research interests.FLAS awards are available for both academic year (in residence at UT) and summer studies (at UT, abroad or elsewhere in the US).
