All undergrad researchers at The University of Texas at Austin are invited to submit a 2-minute research video and compete for $5,000 in the Texas Student Research Showdown.
In this annual video competition, student researchers create two-minute videos about their research, which are voted on by UT students and judged by a faculty panel. The judges’ top videos receive prizes recognizing their excellence in research communication — $2,500, $1,000, and $500 for the top three. In addition, students may choose to compete in an “audience choice” competition, with a $1,000 prize for the winner. With larger awards and a simplified format, there’s never been a better year to enter!
Submissions are due Oct. 15, and winners will be announced at a reception Nov. 14.
Why should I enter?
Student researchers are rarely trained to communicate effectively about their work in terms of its relevance, but throughout their careers they’ll have to be able to talk to non-experts about why their research is important. We want to help UT’s top students explain their discoveries—and tell their stories as researchers—to this general audience.
Who can enter?
The Showdown is open to any UT undergraduate involved in research or creative activity in any major. Your work can be an independent project or a collaboration with a professor or lab to which you have made substantive contributions. Even if your project is still in progress, we encourage you to consider a submission.
