Film Screening and Discussion with Director

Screening and discussion with documentary filmmaker Bahman Maghsoudlou

At 5:30 p.m. on Monday April 1, the Joynes Reading Room will host a screening of Razor’s Edge: The Legacy of Iranian Actresses, and a discussion with Bahman Magsoudlou, the director. Maghsoudlou’s films have been selected for more than 100 international film festivals, and his books of film criticism include Iranian CinemaLove & Liberty in CinemaThis Side of the Mind & The Other Side of the Pupil. His forthcoming book, Grass: Untold Stories, recounts the experiences of two combat aviators (Merian Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack) and Marguerite Harrison (a war reporter and American spy), who travelled together to Iran to make a historical documentary film in 1924. (Cooper and Schoedsack later became successful Hollywood filmmakers, and produced major pictures such as King Kong.) This event is free and open to the public, but seating may be limited. Apply to be a Mentor for the Foundation Scholars Program!

The Foundation Scholars Program (FSP) is hiring mentors for the 2019-20 academic year. FSP Mentors provide leadership and academic mentorship to first-year students in the College of Liberal Arts, as they transition from high school to UT Austin.

FSP Mentor Info Sessions:

March 27 @5PM (RLP 1.302D)

April 2 @5PM (BUR 214)

To qualify to be an FSP Mentor, you must:

-have a 2.6 GPA

-be a currently enrolled student at UT Austin

-must be available and enrolled in at least 12 hours in the fall `19 and spring `20 semester (if you are participating in Study Abroad during any of these semesters, you can’t apply to be a mentor)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program has posted 15 internship opportunities, many of which would be a great fit for LAH students.

The internships are part-time and offer living and housing stipends, so students can afford to live in Austin for the summer while they complete the internships. The interns will work on a range of projects, from financial analysis to environmental sustainability. We offer positions in the Center for Students in Recovery, Title IX office, Leadership and Ethics Institute, Student Emergency Services, University Unions, New Student Services, and University Health Services and Counseling and Mental Health Center. City of Austin Planning Department Seeking Paid Summer Interns

The City of Austin Planning and Zoning Department is seeking two paid part-time 2019 summer interns (undergraduate or graduate) to assist with one or more of the following on-going department initiatives including: historic preservation, current and long range planning. Tasks may include research, analysis, public involvement support, mapping, field survey support, document development and layout, and other support duties.

Protecting Haitian Patrimony + Digital Library of the Caribbean, April 3

The John L. Warfield Center for African & African American Studies and LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections at the University of Texas at Austin cordially invite you to the next event in the series!

Dr. St. Hubert will discuss cultural preservation initiatives in Haiti supported by dLOC through its Protecting Haitian Patrimony Initiative, which includes Haiti: An Island Luminous, a digital humanities site to help readers learn about Haiti’s history by combining rare books, manuscripts, and photos scanned by archives and libraries in Haiti and the United States with commentary by over one hundred (100) authors from universities around the world.
