Film Screening and Discussion with Director

Screening and discussion with documentary filmmaker Bahman Maghsoudlou

At 5:30 p.m. on Monday April 1, the Joynes Reading Room will host a screening of Razor’s Edge: The Legacy of Iranian Actresses, and a discussion with Bahman Magsoudlou, the director. Maghsoudlou’s films have been selected for more than 100 international film festivals, and his books of film criticism include Iranian CinemaLove & Liberty in CinemaThis Side of the Mind & The Other Side of the Pupil. His forthcoming book, Grass: Untold Stories, recounts the experiences of two combat aviators (Merian Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack) and Marguerite Harrison (a war reporter and American spy), who travelled together to Iran to make a historical documentary film in 1924. (Cooper and Schoedsack later became successful Hollywood filmmakers, and produced major pictures such as King Kong.) This event is free and open to the public, but seating may be limited.
