Apricity’s purpose is to provide a platform for voices from all around the world to be acknowledged, heard, and expressed through the literary, visual, and performing arts. As a result, in addition to publishing submitted works online on our website, we also publish what we consider the best submissions in our annual print edition. Scholarship for First Generation College Students for Education Abroad

Texas Global would like to encourage you to apply for the First Abroad Scholarship.  This scholarship supports first-generation in college students planning for an education abroad experience. It is a one-time scholarship of $3,000 used to fund participation in a UT-approved study, internship or research program.  Students apply for the scholarship, and then work with Education Abroad to find a study or internship program.

Eligibility:

  • Your first semester at UT is fall 2021

FLAS Fellowships: Get paid to learn foreign languages!

Each year the Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship program, funded through the US Department of Education, provides almost $1 million in funding to UT undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines to study foreign languages and cultures at UT and elsewhere in the US and abroad. Applications for these fellowships generally open in early to mid-November and close in early to mid-February.

*Must be studied in a context relevant to Eastern Europe/Former Soviet states. CREEES FLAS are not intended for students studying these languages in a West European or Middle Eastern Studies context. 

Center for European Studies

Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese*, Romanian, Serbian, Swedish, Turkish*, Ukrainian, Yiddish.

LCAE + University Co-op Internship Opportunity

The University Co-op and the Longhorn Center for Academic Equity offer a one-of-a-kind internship opportunity to University of Texas at Austin students serious about gaining interactive corporate experiences and mentorship aligned with their academic and professional goals. Program Highlights

  • Open to all majors. Requires 24-60 in-residence hours and GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Requires enrolling in one-credit Spring 2022 ALD 118C job shadowing course.
  • Internships are competitively paid, including optional summer employment.
  • Pay increases annually, as responsibilities increase. Starts at $12.00/hour.
  • Responsibilities aligned with your career goals, and you help decide your path.

2022 Hertog Fellowships

The Hertog Foundation offers highly competitive fellowships to outstanding students at universities across the world. We are pleased to open applications for our 2022 fellowships.

Hertog applicants are academically accomplished with interests in politics, public policy, and the liberal arts. For our 2021 cohort, we received over 1,000 applications and admitted 234 fellows. The average GPA of ourapplicants was 3.7. Our fellows major across the curriculum, with concentrations in the humanities, the social sciences, and STEM.

  • Humanities at Hertog – Study a great literary work over winter break with four online seminars on Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, Achebe, and Tom Wolfe.
  • Our flagship Political Studies Program is our most competitive program, bringing together 36 outstanding students for a six-week course of study in the theory and practice of politics. 
  • Students can explore key constitutional debates in a one-week residential seminar taught by Yale Law professor Akhil Reed Amar on his new book The Words That Made Us.
  • For students with internships and other obligations, our online Summer Courses are ideal. Sessions are held in the evenings each week to allow students to meet other commitments.

2021 Student Writing Flag Awards

Apply for the School of Undergraduate Studies Writing Flag Award, honoring the best writing produced by UT undergraduates in courses carrying the Writing Flag! Students must submit their work by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, to be eligible for prizes of up to $300, awarded in three categories—Research, Persuasive/Critical, and Creative/Reflective. The Writing Flag Awards will recognize student writing that best demonstrates clarity, inventiveness, and intellectual rigor.

Eligible works must be written by an undergraduate student and submitted for credit in a UT-Austin Writing Flag class in the Spring, Summer, or Fall semester of 2021. Collaborative entries are allowed in all categories.

Nominate a Deserving Longhorn for the Holloway and Vick Awards

The Texas Exes is seeking nominations from students for two awards that honor members of the UT faculty and staff.

 

The Jean Holloway Award for Excellence in Teaching is presented annually to a teacher in the College of Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences who demonstrates a warm spirit, a concern for society and the individual, and the ability to impart knowledge while challenging students to independent inquiry and creative thought.
The award amounts to more than $4,500, and the recipient is recognized with a ceremony in the spring. The nomination and selection process is done solely by students.

The James W. Vick Award recognizes individuals who improve undergraduate students’ overall experience at UT Austin through outstanding academic advising.

Each year, five academic advisors are awarded $500 and are recognized with a ceremony in the spring. The nomination and selection process is done solely by students.

Join us on Zoom for the November installment of The Futures Initiative, a program highlighting how studying humanities and social sciences prepares students for public and professional lives of purpose. This month we welcome G. Elliott Morris, a data journalist at The Economist who will be Zooming in from Washington, D.C. Elliott writes about American politics and elections, usually by engaging in a close study of political science, political polling and demographic data. He is responsible for many of the paper’s election forecasting models, including their 2020 US presidential election forecast. Elliott is also author of the forthcoming book Strength in Numbers: How Polls Work and Why We Need Them.

 

Elliott began blogging about political statistics as a UT student in 2015. He also worked as a survey methodology intern at the Pew Research Center and produced statistical models for the election returns startup Decision Desk HQ between 2017 and 2018. He received his undergraduate degrees in government and history from UT Austin in May 2018.
