Partners in Health Recruitment

Dear Professor,

My name is Izzy Richards, and I am a third-year student at UT Austin. I am also a student organizer with Partners in Health, a UT student organization.

Partners in Health (PIH) is a nonprofit that seeks to bring high quality, sustainable healthcare to vulnerable populations by hiring from within local communities and establishing training hospitals. PIH Engage members work to educate themselves and their community about the impact of historical oppression on access to healthcare, raise money for PIH, and advocate for equitable legislation. We are open to all undergraduate and graduate students from all majors and backgrounds.

I would really appreciate any help finding passionate and motivated individuals to apply as PIH Engage at UT is currently recruiting student organizers for the 2022-2023 academic year. Here is the link to a video (1.5 minutes in length) about PIH Engage at UT Austin, and a graphic with a QR code linking important information is attached.

Develop Your Leadership Skills!

Texas Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) is happy to announce that we are starting our Pathways to Leadership series starting next week, and you can REGISTER TODAY! Are you interested in developing your skills as a leader? Do you want to step into leadership roles will more confidence and competence? Then the Pathways to Leadership program is perfect for you! We offer five separate areas of specialization, allowing you to focus on the precise aspect of leadership that you want to improve. Take a look at the options below:

  • Strength Based Leadership (Every Tuesday at 11:00am):

Use the Clifton StrenthsQuest Assessment to identify your personal leadership strengths, and create strategies on how to best utilize them. This is the perfect series for students who are eager to identify the individual qualities that will make them great leaders!

  • Inclusive Leadership (Every Tuesday at 3:30pm):

The best leaders make sure that everyone has a seat at the table. This series will help students recognize common leadership challenges, while ensuring that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are at the forefront of the minds of tomorrow’s leaders.

  • Building Leadership Confidence (Every Wednesday at 11:00am):

Confidence doesn’t always come naturally to everyone, but we can all make a strategy to help us feel confident as we step into leadership roles. This series focuses on developing a practical toolkit to help build our own confidence, while simultaneously building the confidence of those around us!

  • Impactful Team Leadership (Every Wednesday at 3:30pm):

How do we motivate our teams? How do we navigate conflict? These are some of the biggest questions that face new leaders. This series investigates these questions, focusing on the big-impact strategies we can use to ensure we are becoming impactful leaders, with impactful teams.

  • Everyday Leadership (Every Thursday at 3:30pm):

Sometimes it’s the small subtle actions leaders take that end up being the most impactful. This series allows students to investigate these small actions and create big strategies to overcome leadership challenges. Using the 4 P Process, students will learn about the small, but important, moments of leadership.

Normandy Scholar Program

Dear prospective Normandy Scholar Program student:

This letter is to invite you to consider the Frank Denius Normandy Scholar Program on World War II (NSP) as a part of your educational experience at The University of Texas at Austin. The Normandy Scholar Program, which is entering its 32 th year, is open to all majors on campus and does not require a foreign language. It offers one-semester (Spring 2023) of intensive study of the causes, course, and impact of World War Two followed by a nearly month-long faculty-led trip to the most important World War Two sites in London, Normandy, Paris, Berlin, and Warsaw. Students who meet the program requirements and are looking for an extraordinary educational opportunity are invited to apply.
We would like to encourage you to come to the NSP table at the Study Abroad Fair to talk to former Normandy Scholars about their experiences in the program and come to an Information Session about the program.

Student Recommendations for The Daily Texan

My name is Megan Tran, and I’m the editor-in-chief of The Daily Texan. As part of our semesterly recruitment process, I like to reach out to professors who teach writing heavy classes in search of particularly bright students. Professors always provide the best suggestions for potential writers, and it’s an invaluable part of our recruitment process.

In particular, I’m looking for students who stand out because of their writing, or who have a notable interest in social issues or the UT community, that would make valuable columnists for the Texan’s opinion department. If you can think of anyone off the top of your head, I would really appreciate the opportunity to reach out to them personally. Liberal Arts Pre Med Society

Liberal Arts Pre Med Society is an organization that focuses on helping and guiding members through the confusing pre-med process. Our officers are all pre meds following the non-traditional route of pre meds as liberal arts majors.  We cover aspects of pre med life such as courses to take, med school/career choices, MCAT prep and advice, study materials, volunteer opportunities, social opportunities, mentorship and interaction with other fellow pre-med students.  

Our focus is on the non-traditional liberal arts majors but we also help all pre-meds, both traditional and non-traditional. 

We have around 20 members with 5 officers. 

Our next meeting is August 31st from 6pm to 7pm in RLP 0.120

The focus of TSRs is to offer direct, personalized, and individual engagement with prospective UT Austin students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds including Black, Latinx, Native/Indigenous, First-Generation, LGBTQIA+, and other historically excluded student populations. Startup Coffee Connect is a casual, friendly networking event for all Longhorn entrepreneurs. Open to all students, faculty, and staff, the HKEC provides a relaxed environment for innovators to discuss what they are working on, pitch ideas to potential founding partners, and enjoy the complimentary coffee bar and breakfast tacos. After brief opening remarks about upcoming opportunities within the UT Startup Ecosystem from HKEC Assistant Director Amanda Golden, the floor is opened for entrepreneurs to mingle and network amongst each other.
