Junior Fellows Recruiting

Junior Fellows is recruiting! We are looking for enterprising rising juniors in all disciplines who have research plans for the next two years at UT.  More information and the application can be found on the COLA website:

Application is open to any qualified student from any program on campus who will have completed 60 hours prior to the Fall semester. Junior Fellows normally have a GPA of at least 3.75, but outstanding students whose abilities are manifested in other ways should not hesitate to apply. Although administered by the College of Liberal Arts, the program is open to all qualified students on campus. Many students from outside Liberal Arts are currently members.

The application deadline will be extended to April 15 for first round consideration, but we will continue to accept applications until the last class day.

We will be accepting electronic applications only. Please submit no more than 2 files and use some form of the applicant’s last name as the files’ name. Also, clearly indicate expected date of graduation.

Membership in Junior Fellows begins the fall semester following the spring recruitment period.

LAH 102H Writing Fellow Applications

Writing Fellow are expected to attend LAH 102H every Monday from 4 – 4:50pm and attend the Writing Fellow meeting immediately after class until 5:15 pm.

Apply for the LAH Diversity Action Committee

Interested in joining the Liberal Arts Honors Diversity Action Committee (LAHDAC)? Attached is the Director Application in which you are able to apply for a position on LAHDAC’s Board of Directors. We have attached LAHDAC’s constitution so you can find our organization’s purpose and the descriptions of each Director position. In addition, we are hosting informal info sessions on:

Thursday, September 10 from 7:00pm-8:00pm and 8:00pm-9:00pm

Monday, September 14 from 7:00pm-8:00pm and 8:00pm-9:00pm

The zoom links will be sent on the day of. You do not have to attend an info session to apply, but you are welcome to attend to learn more about the positions and ask questions. The application is due Friday, September 18 at 11:59 pm.

UT Black Honors Student Association

We hope that your first week of classes has treated you well! We wanted to welcome you to the Black Honors Student Association (BHSA). This organization is a safe space for Black students of all majors and programs to socialize, network, and serve the community. We are contacting you to officially invite you to our first general body meeting this Wednesday, September 2nd at 6:30pm. This meeting will take place over Zoom to ensure the safest, most accessible, platform. The meeting link is below.
We know that the strange circumstances of this semester make community even more important. We also strive to support our members as much as possible. 2020-2021 LAH Mentor Application

Apply to be a 2020-2021 LAH Mentor for incoming LAH students!  Being a mentor gives you the opportunity to make a mark on entering freshmen in the Liberal Arts Honors program. Each mentor will receive anywhere from 3-5 mentees in the fall semester.

The application closes on Sunday, June 7th, but will likely be extended.

2020 Friar Centennial Teaching Fellowship

The Friar Society is now accepting nominations for the 2020 Friar Centennial Teaching Fellowship (FCTF)! This fellowship, awarded annually, recognizes a faculty member who has attained distinction in teaching undergraduates and who has made a significant contribution to the university beyond their calling. It is the largest faculty award at the university, totaling $25,000. We invite you to nominate a professor who is deserving of this honor. Semi-finalists for the award are determined solely on the basis of received nominations. Therefore, please be as elaborate and specific as possible.

  • How has this faculty member demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates and contributed to the University community?
  • How has this faculty member transformed your experience at the University?

LAH Info Session Ambassadors Needed!

Stacey needs a few LAHers to volunteer to serve as LAH Student Ambassadors to meet and greet prospective students and their families at the LAH Information Sessions this spring semester.

Your responsibilities would be to speak with guests about your experiences in LAH, UT, dorm life, etc..  basically everything about being a student at UT and in LAH. The sessions begin Friday, February 1st from 10:00-12:00 (the first hour is with students and parents, the second hour just with parents)  in the LAH  Commons Room and run every Monday and Friday until April 29th (no sessions during Spring Break).   If you can make it for both Mondays and Fridays great! If not, that’s ok as long as there are other student representatives.  You can also sign up for the first hour 10:00-10:00  or 11:00-12:00 or stay for both hours.

Apply for the Humanities Honors Major!!

Want to design your own interdisciplinary honors major? With Humanities, you can put together a major that reflects your specific research interests.  Topics encompass much more than traditional Humanities fields, like the fine arts and literature.  Current Humanities majors are completing contracts in Women’s Health in the Middle East, Language and Social Change, Human Rights in the Francophone World, and Game Theory,  among many others.

Humanities is a small community of students that will receive individualized advising from the Humanities adviser (Linda).  Humanities is a major by application only. There are not any specific application deadlines, but now is an excellent time to come speak to me about your interests and start building your Humanities contract.
