2012 UT Law Fair

UT Law Fair is an annual event that brings representatives from 130+ law schools to campus to recruit UT students. UT Law Fair is one of the largest school-sponsored law fairs in the nation! This is a unique opportunity to learn a great deal about many different law schools all in one day. Oftentimes the person at the booth is the same person who will be reading your application down the road! Law Fair is free and open to the public. Business casual dress is recommended.

Internship opportunity at New Economic School in Moscow for Spring, 2013
This opportunity is available to current and recent grads

Application deadline: October 8, 2012

The internship will provide:

  • round-trip airfare
  • housing in a dorm
  • a modest stipend for living expenses

You will:

  • work at your internship for a minimum of 4 hours/day

You may:

  • take a language class at Higher School of Economics
  • take a content course at New Economic School
  • participate in all NES events

The first step:

  • provide a personal statement that describes your plan to contribute to NES and develop yourself at NES;
  • provide a current CV;
  • provide at least two letters of reference (of which at least one should be from college faculty).
  • Students whose native language is not English should demonstrate proficiency in English. Some level of Russian is a plus, but is not required.

NEW ECONOMIC SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS FOR US STUDENTS/RECENT GRADUATES

New Economic School, located in Moscow, Russia, invites applications for semester-long internships, starting Spring 2013. College students invited to apply starting from their junior year.

WHY NES
NES was established as a Western-Russian educational partnership that was intended to promote international standards of education to the best Russian students. As an internationally-oriented university, NES provides the friendliest and most productive atmosphere possible for someone who wishes to study Russian, spend time in Moscow and learn more about Russia. We offer living in dorms with NES students and a student visa. Besides work, we offer a full variety of benefits: enrollment in a Russian language course at Higher School of Economics or in one of NES’s regular BA or MA-level courses; participation in all events for NES students; a free roundtrip ticket from the United States; and a fellowship that covers living expenses in Moscow. The minimum workload will be 4 hours a day, but may be more. The combination of rewards and services are individualized to each applicant to achieve personal and professional satisfaction .

DEMAND
Many types of assignments, ranging from administrative tasks to daily routines and even full fledged projects are available:
1.    Marketing and promotion of the internship program

20. Bachelor student counselor (for BA students applying abroad, helping to write personal statements, etc)

Once the internship program is established and we gain experience the list of tasks will likely become more predictable.

SUPPLY
We can accommodate different types of people with various backgrounds, academic and professional interests, and different levels of Russian command (even those without any prior experience). We would like to find motivated interns who are ready to work to accomplish certain tasks while changing the environment around them. We need people with excellent work ethic, who are creative and industrious and who can inspire people around them with their innovative attitude to work and performance, bringing US service standards to the Russian environment.
Those interested should first apply to University of Texas Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies.

HOW WE SELECT
An intern should provide a personal statement that describes his or her plan to contribute to NES and develop him or herself at NES; a CV; and at least two letters of reference (of which at least one should be from college faculty). Texas 4000 is a non-profit student organization that is dedicated to fighting cancer by sharing hope, knowledge and charity. We cultivate the next generation to lead the fight against cancer through our cornerstone event, a more than 4,500-mile bike ride from Austin to Anchorage. We also raise $4,500 (about $1 per mile) to donate to cancer research. Past and current LAH riders include Jamie Hill and Caroline Suh.

Liberal Arts Week 2012

The Liberal Arts Council, the official student voice for students in the College of Liberal Arts, will be hosting its annual Liberal Arts Week! The theme is “You Know You’re in Liberal Arts When…,” and the week will consist of various events listed below that showcase the college. Come out for free food, t-shirts, sunglasses, water bottles, and more!

Liberal Arts Council is proud to be partnered with The New York Times and the Senate of College Councils for Liberal Arts Week 2012.

Essay Contest – Hosted by THE LIBERATOR news-magazine

The winning essay will receive a $250 prize as provided by THE LIBERATOR. 

Who: Open to all students registered within the College of Liberal Arts

What: Submit a 500-750 word (please no more than 750 words) essay for consideration by the staff of THE LIBERATOR answering the following prompt:  

How would your liberal arts education influence your personal platform for the presidency of the United States?

Students will write why they love being a part of CoLA on white board and then have their photo taken. Started in 2011 by a collaboration between pre-law community leaders at The University of Texas at Austin (including several LAHers!), the objective of the Texas Undergraduate Law Review is to enhance the reading, writing, and rhetoric abilities of undergraduate students through introducing them to the field of undergraduate research in the contemporary legal issues facing our generation. We are a student-edited and officially recognized research organization at UT Austin and will be publishing nationally throughout the year.

This is a perfect opportunity to turn that in-class research paper into something that will get you published and help you ‘stand out’ from the rest of the applicants to law school.

If you are passionate about film, television, music or digital arts, and are interested in exploring related careers in the entertainment industry, you may be interested in participating in the UT Semester in Los Angeles Program. Students earn UT in-residence credit, and the program is open to all majors.

Communications Internal Transfer Sessions

Communications Internal Transfer Information Sessions http://communication.utexas.edu/prospective/internal-transfer-information .

Attending a session is required if you want to meet with the internal transfer advisor, but not required if you want to apply to Communications.  Students only have to attend one session but are welcome to come to more than one for a refresher.
