Texas Battle for Change- The Battle of the Bands Event on May 10th, 7 – 11pm

Join us for a free concert to celebrate the anti-human trafficking efforts in Austin. We will have local heroes speak out about their struggles and their victories, and listen to talented local musicians. Talent includes: Hunter Jones, Yuma, Lace Tunes, and Life So Far.

LAHers if you will be in Austin all or part of the summer, consider signing up to volunteer to meet, greet and pre-advise the incoming LAH class of 2018. We will be having a info/ training session Tuesday, May 6 3:00-4:30ish in the LAH Commons room. LAH Summer Office Position

We have one position in the LAH office this summer for 20 hrs/wk for $10/hr.  Duties will include: answering phones, scheduling advising appointments,  greeting visitors, updating the website, and assisting with orientation as needed.  The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and basic technology knowledge (Microsoft outlook, wordpress, power point). Lavender Graduation is a special graduation ceremony that honors the achievements of graduating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and ally students on campus.

Lavender Graduation is co-hosted by the Gender and Sexuality Center and the UT Queer Students Alliance (QSA). Our goal is to provide a venue to demonstrate the success of our community members in a personal, entertaining and celebratory way. The Lavender Graduation Ceremony includes:

Exhilarating speeches from UT faculty, administrators, students, and alumni; the chance to cross the lavender stage to celebrate your success and to receive a Lavender Graduation certificate as well as a rainbow tassel; and music, cake and food to share with friends, family and well-wishers!

HRC Event with poet, biographer Matthew Hollis

Award-winning poet, biographer, and editor Matthew Hollis speaks about the friendship between poets Robert Frost and Edward Thomas and its fatal consequences in the midst of the Great War on Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. Ransom Center members receive complimentary parking and priority entry at this program. Material related to Edward Thomas is featured in the Ransom Center’s current exhibition The World at War, 1914–1918.

Hollis’s book Ground Water (Bloodaxe, 2004) was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award, the Whitbread Prize for Poetry, and the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. He is co-editor of Strong Words: Modern Poets on Modern Poetry (Bloodaxe, 2000) and 101 Poems Against War (Faber, 2003), and editor of Selected Poems of Edward Thomas (Faber, 2011). Now All Roads Lead to France: The Last Years of Edward Thomas (Faber, 2011; Norton, 2012) won the Costa Biography Award and the H. W. Fisher Biography Prize and was the Sunday Times Biography of the Year.

Doors open at 6:20 p.m. for members and at 6:30 p.m. for the general public. Members must present their membership cards for priority entrance; one seat per membership card. Members arriving after 6:30 p.m. will join the general queue. Complimentary parking for members is available at the University Co-op garage at 23rd and San Antonio streets.

Attendees may enter to win a copy of Robert Frost’s The Road Not Taken and Other Poems and a copy of Matthew Hollis’s book Now All Roads Lead to France: A Life of Edward Thomas.
