Archer Fellowship Program Information Sessions

The Archer Fellowship Program offers undergraduate students from across The University of Texas System the life-changing opportunity to live, learn, and intern in Washington, D.C., during a fall or spring semester. Home to numerous government, nonprofit, media, and research institutions, Washington, D.C., offers unparalleled opportunities for career development and cultural enrichment, enabling students from any field or major to pursue their interests in federal policy and public service.

While in the program, students will:

Engage in a full-time internship aligned with their professional and academic goals, gaining experience in a variety of settings such as congressional offices, nonprofits, think tanks, and more
Study federal policymaking, history, and communications from policy experts in Washington, D.C., while earning in-residence UT Austin credit
Live near Capitol Hill, experiencing fellowship and signature events with other passionate and service-minded students from Texas

Along the way, Archer Fellows build lifelong friendships, make professional connections, and establish a strong foundation of skills and real-world experiences that will prepare them for their future careers.

All majors are welcome! Public service and policymaking need voices and perspectives from every academic discipline.

The Archer Fellowship Program is more affordable than ever! Archer Fellows may be able to apply their federal, state, campus, and private financial aid toward participation in the Archer Fellowship Program. In addition, students may apply for Archer Center scholarships, which can help offset program costs.

Assassination as Statecraft: Political Killing in International Affairs

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM in the LBJ School’s SRH 3.122, the Clements-Strauss Intelligence Studies Project (ISP) will host a public event, “Assassination as Statecraft: Political Killing in International Affairs,” with Dr. Kiril Avramov, ISP Fellow and Assistant Professor at the Department of European and Eurasian Studies. This event will mark the first of ISP’s Off the Wire series for the fall semester.

Texas Intelligence Academy

UT Austin’s Clements-Strauss Intelligence Studies Project (ISP) is announcing Texas Intelligence Academy (TIA) 2027, an intensive, 3-hour credit, academic May term for undergraduate and graduate students focused on intelligence and national security in Washington, D.C. on May 4 to 27, 2027. We welcome students of all academic backgrounds to apply as national security is a multi-disciplinary endeavor.

Applications opened on August 31, 2026, and the deadline to apply is November 6, 2026. Please visit ISP’s website for more information and join us at the information session on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 3:30PM in FAC 430.

National Security Career Fair

On Monday, September 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Texas Union’s Shirley Bird Perry Ballroom, the Clements-Strauss Intelligence Studies Project will host the National Security Career Fair. This event is co-sponsored by the Clements Center for National Security and the Strauss Center for International Security and Law, in partnership with UT’s Career Success and the LBJ School of Public Affairs.

The National Security Career Fair is only open to UT Austin students and alumni.

Government Research Thesis Project

The project addresses the critical importance of reliable information in a multi-ethnic democracy and the vulnerability of fragmented information ecosystems. The study explores the intersection of political views, information sources, and opinions on recent political events.

Qualifications:

At least 18 years of age
Of Latino or Hispanic origin
English-fluent or Bilingual
Eligible to vote

Participants will have access to a three-part anonymous survey that will take 10-15 minutes to complete.

Texas Sociological Association

The Texas Sociological Association (TSA) is welcoming new general members for the Fall 2026 semester! We invite all LAH & Humanities students interested in sociology to join us, regardless of their year or experience.

We are a student-led organization that connects students with sociology beyond the classroom through faculty connections, research and publication opportunities, career development, professional events, and community-building. Members can also learn about paid research opportunities and other ways to gain experience that can strengthen their resumes.

Gilman Scholarship Info Sessions and Writing Workshop

The Gilman Scholarship is a generous federal scholarship for study abroad and a great opportunity for U.S. citizens receiving a Federal Pell Grant to fund their international experience. UT Austin is consistently a top producer of Gilman Scholars.

The Fall 2026 Application is now open for applicants whose abroad programs or internships start between December 1, 2026 to October 31, 2027. This cycle encompasses Winter or January term 2027, Spring 2027, Maymester 2027, Summer 2027, Fall 2027, and academic year 2027-2028 programs. The application deadline is Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 11:59pm Pacific Time.

Texas Orator

The Texas Orator is a multi-partisan, peer-reviewed publication that is registered as part of the Associated Collegiate Press. We value thorough analysis in our articles and strive to protect the ideals of free speech and unhindered access to information on campus and nationwide. We seek to keep the student body informed of the implications of ever-changing political climates, both domestically and abroad, from a range of voices and perspectives. We have been indexed as scholarly literature by the UT Libraries and by UT Undergraduate Studies.

We are accepting applications for new members for the Fall 2026 semester. We have available positions in all roles including editors, writers, artists, photographers, and more. If you are interested in expressing your opinions to the student body, reporting on current events, or starting necessary discussions among your peers, we are excited to receive your application! Embedded Scholars 2027

The 2027 Embedded Scholars Application is now open for UT students to apply for Summer 2027 internships in democratic and constitutional development in the Balkans, Eurasia, and Latin America. This is a partially funded international internship open to undergraduate and graduate students from any major at UT.

The program provides unparalleled opportunities for students interested in democracy to work with CID Gallup and International IDEA in Latin America, and with International IDEA, the National Democratic Institute, and Transparency International in the Balkans and Eurasia. Students receive training at UT in the spring before going abroad for the summer to support democracy assistance programs in the field.

Join us for an information session on September 10, 2026, from 12:30am-1:30pm, in RLP 1.302D (details here). Program directors and prior fellows will share more about the program and fellows’ work in the field.
