Please help spread the word that applications for this summer’s Explore Law are still open. Explore Law’s goal is to increase the numbers of high-priority undergraduate students from the University of Texas at Austin, Huston-Tillotson University, and Austin Community College who apply to and are accepted into law school. Over the last eight years, we’ve had nearly two hundred students complete the program, and over 95% of them are presently on a path to and through law school.

The cornerstone of the program is the four-week summer program. This summer the program will run 20 July to 11 August. We are planning to meet in person. Participants who complete the program earn a stipend, are eligible for free LSAT prep, and connected with a law school mentor.

THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED. Applications are now due Friday, 14 April, 11:59P Central, but please encourage interested students to apply as soon as possible.

The Sanger Learning Center is hiring student educators for Fall 2023, and most of our applications close on March 27^th!

We are among the largest student employers on campus and pay some of the highest student wages. Working at Sanger provides valuable work experience on a flexible schedule while helping other students achieve their goals. Skills developed and implemented by student educators at Sanger include peer-to-peer content tutoring, academic coaching, customer service, study group and workshop facilitation, and public speaking consultation. 

If your students are interested, we highly encourage them to attend our last SLC Job Fair! They’ll be able to meet current student educators, the staff members leading our teams, and ask as many questions as they’d like while snacking on free bagels, coffee, and fruit. Bevo Buddy! pairs UT student leaders with incoming students. As a Bevo Buddy Leader, you will be matched with approximately 5-10 new students. You will build relationships by connecting through bi-weekly check-ins (via text or email) and semesterly in-person meet ups. We hope that Bevo Buddy Leaders will share their insight into campus resources, as well as, their own personal experiences and advice. Leaders will also have opportunities to attend VIP engagement events on and off campus with your students.   

The position will begin August 16, 2023. This is a paid position for $12/hour for no more than 5 hours per week during the academic school year. Leaders will also receive Dine-in Dollars to use during meetings with students.

The Center for Community Engagement is recruiting for the 2023-2024 class of Volunteer UT Student Fellows.

Volunteer UT Student Fellows will serve as ambassadors between The University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Community Engagement (CCE) and the 18 colleges and schools across the Forty Acres. Each student fellow will act as a dedicated liaison to two academic units, connecting them with CCE resources to support service learning and community engagement. Fellows will be appointed for one academic year and receive a $1,000 stipend for their service. proud to announce its first Virtual Town Hall in partnership with Texas LULAC, the Texas
NAACP, the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, and the Mexican American Legislative Caucus
to discuss both the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives in Texas

colleges and universities, along with work workforce diversity, and Ethnic Studies policy in K-
12 education in Texas.

The town hall will take place at www.facebook.com/TeamBlackBrown. Featuring a panel of
experts as well as students who will discuss the benefits of DEI programs and how they help
build more inclusive and welcoming communities. The panel will include:
•The Honorable Texas Senator Royce West
•Julia Brookins, Special Projects Administrator, American Historical Association
DEI programs are essential for creating a more equitable society and helping marginalized
groups overcome systemic barriers. However, some lawmakers in Texas have recently
proposed bills that would restrict or eliminate these programs. This virtual town hall meeting
will provide an opportunity for community members, employers, and legislators to learn more
about DEI programs and voice their support for them.

“Consistent with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI), we believe that DEI
programs are critical for building a more just and inclusive society” said Angela Valenzuela,
Ph.D. co-convener of Black Brown Dialogues on Policy about the vital need for these
programs and hiring practices. “We also encourage lawmakers to support Ethnic Studies in
the K-12 curriculum.”

The virtual town hall is free and open to the public. We encourage community members,
university faculty, students, advocates, and lawmakers to attend.
