Represent LAH at the COLA Resource Fair – RSVP by 8/24
The College of Liberal Arts will be hosting its annual fall resource fair on Tuesday, August 25 in the Union from noon-3 p.m. We need help from sophomores, juniors, or seniors to represent the Humanities major and college honors/upper-division LAH. This is an opportunity to bring visibility to honors programs students can enter after they matriculate to the university. If you are interested in helping out, please complete this form by noon on the first class day.
Open Honors Classes
Continuing students are now able to register for the honors sections previously reserved for freshmen! If you are looking for a social science, we have honors sections of PSY 301 and LIN 306. If you need a science, or are an Anthopology major who has not yet taken 301, we’ve got an honors section of ANT 301. Why take a large lecture when you could have a small seminar with other honors students?
We have open seats in upper-division LAH courses, particularly in two courses that were added at the end of the last registration period: LAH 350 Archives Memory Human Rights and LAH 350 World History of Soccer. The first class will count as an experiential learning credit for LAH Scholars and will give everyone an opportunity to get out of the classroom and into campus archives while looking at human rights work. The second class will discuss something many of us enjoyed watching this summer. This class examines the history of the beautiful game and its interactions with empire, immigration, nationalism, globalization, European integration, decolonization, development, conflict, and soft power.

Inaugural LAH Photography Contest
The inaugural LAH Photography Awards recognize excellence and artistry in photography and support the accomplishments of our LAH students.
Eligibility: Current Liberal Arts Honors Students
Specifications: Submit an original photograph taken during the past academic year (1 September 2025 – 1 September 2026)
Award Brief: “Small World”
While travel photography often seeks the grand and the distant, our “Small World” brief challenges you to shrink the map. We are not looking for the sprawling of horizons or famous landmarks that define a destination; instead, we invite you to document the intimate, often overlooked moments that prove the world is much smaller than it appears.
What We Are Looking For: We want to see the “spirit of adventure” captured through a narrower lens. Your submission should explore common threads that bind us across borders, cultures, and environments. Whether you are shooting in a bustling city or a remote village, your work should highlight:
- The Miniature Detail: Textures, patterns, or objects that are unique to a place but universal in their beauty.
- Shared Human Gestures: Candid moments of connection, camaraderies, or daily ritual that make a foreign land feel intimate.
- Narrative Scale: Innovative uses of perspective that play with scale, making the vast feel intimate or the ordinary feel monumental.
Creative Freedom: Participants are encouraged to interpret this them from any angle —be it street, portraiture, or documentary. Images can be shot on any device (including a phone) and in any style. We are searching for work that triggers memory and expands our collective horizons, whether during a study abroad experience, in Austin, or your hometown.
Awards: We anticipate making three awards of $1000 each. Additionally, we will print and frame each of the award-winning photographs and display them in the LAH Suite.
Submissions: Your context submission are due by 12 pm CDT on September 1, 2026. Submit your digital file (jpeg, tiff or raw) via the UT Box link below. Please be sure to include your name and EID in the title of the file and at the top of your work.

2026 First-Year Scholarships!
LAH Scholars class of 2030 — LAH gives out a number of scholarships over the year and here is your first opportunity to apply for one. You can view the prompt and submission information on the LAH website. The deadline will be Thursday, August 27, at midnight. We will be awarding 15 $2000 scholarships.
Texas Mock Trial has been the university’s official undergraduate Mock Trial team since 1991 and is currently ranked 2nd in the nation. Every year, we compete in multiple tournaments in courthouses across the country. We empower the newest generation of scholars to take on the legal field and beyond.
We will be holding info sessions on August 31 and September 3 at 6 pm in WCP 1.402. You must attend an info session to try out. After the info sessions, join us for optional boba chats at Tapioca House! It’s a great chance to ask questions about mock trial, get tryout advice, and meet members of the team.
