UD Undergraduate Research Scholars Program

The UD Undergraduate Research Scholars Program is designed to prepare, motivate, encourage, and support students who want to learn more about the graduate school experience and possibly pursue an academic or research career. As a scholar in this program, you will spend 10 weeks on the University of Delaware campus in the summer of 2019, immersed in a research project where you will work closely with faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. You will also learn first-hand about graduate programs at the University of Delaware and develop a valuable network of contacts who can support and assist you in applying to graduate school. The program will provide a stipend of $4000, as well as housing and round-trip transportation.

Gates Summer Internship Program (GSIP)

The goal of GSIP is to provide lab training opportunities to highly qualified undergraduates at the University of Colorado on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

The program runs from May 29th to August 9th, 2019. The interns also attend scientific seminars and career development workshops, participate in social and community outreach activities, and present their research at a poster session on the last day of the program.

Introduction to Diversity in Doctoral Education and Scholarship (IDDEAS@Wharton)

The application deadline for the 7th annual Introduction to Diversity in Doctoral Education and Scholarship (IDDEAS@Wharton) program hosted at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is soon approaching.

IDDEAS@Wharton is a two-day program, April 4-5, 2019, introducing outstanding undergraduates to the field of business academia and research. The aim of IDDEAS@Wharton is to create a diverse doctoral student environment and, in turn, a diverse faculty population.

The program is designed for undergraduate students who demonstrate a strong interest in math, statistics, economics, psychology/sociology, and/or engineering related disciplines and want to know more about PhD research degrees in business. We encourage all interested students to apply.  IDDEAS@Wharton will give participants an opportunity to experience what it means to be a PhD student and to enter a career as a professor, academic and/or researcher. IDDEAS@Wharton participants will take part in doctoral-level research exercises, take mini-master classes with Wharton faculty, hear from Wharton doctoral students, and much more.

To enrich the field of business academia and research, the IDDEAS@Wharton program invites applicants from all academic and personal backgrounds.

Participation in IDDEAS@Wharton is through a competitive selection process. Attendance and accommodations are free of charge including modest travel grants. The application deadline is January 31, 2019. You can access the application here. In addition to the application form, applicants must submit an essay, self-reported or official transcripts, and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member or advisor.

Spring 2019 Undergraduate Research Fellowship

The Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) provides up to $1,000 in support for specific scholarly research projects conducted by full-time UT undergraduate students enrolled in any department. Sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research with support from the academic colleges, these fellowships are intended to cover costs associated with academic research projects proposed and written by student applicants and undertaken with the supervision of a university tenured or tenure-track faculty member, lecturer, senior lecturer or full-time research scientist/engineer. Some restrictions apply.

LAH Diversity Action Committee Diverse Voices Event

Dr. Awad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and faculty associate in the John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies. Her identity and acculturation research examines prejudice and discrimination toward racial/ethnic minorities, specifically Arab/Middle Eastern American and African Americans, and body image among women of color.

The Liberal Arts Honors Program Associate Director, Dr. Monique Pikus, is seeking an undergraduate assistant for Spring 2019. The student will work with Dr. Pikus and her graduate assistant on LAH event programming, diversity and inclusion efforts, and/or researching departmental honors and college honors best practices at peer institutions. Specific tasks will be determined by program priorities. The assistant will work a maximum of 10 hours per week and the pay is $10/hour. Please note that undergraduates currently working for LAH are not eligible for this position. In addition, priority will be given to students with work study and students with the ability to multi-task and work independently. Foreign Language & Area Studies Fellowship – Center for European Studies

Foreign Language & Area Studies Fellowship – Center for European Studies

Applications are open for Summer ’19 and academic year 2019-20 Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships funded by the US Department of Education and administered through the Center for European Studies. We welcome applications from undergraduate students who are studying a European language (excluding French, German, and Spanish) at the intermediate level and beyond. Undergraduate FLAS Fellows receive $7,500 for summer funding ($5,000 for tuition, $2,500 for living expenses), $15,000 for academic year funding ($10,000 for tuition, $5,000 for living expenses). The FLAS fellowship program is open to US citizens, nationals, and permanent residents. A list of languages approved by the Dept. of Education, FAQs, and electronic application can be found on CES’ FLAS website. Deadline to submit application is 5:00pm, January 14, 2019. UT Outpost Donations

Some have wondered how students can access the UT OUTPOST:

  • The UT Outpost falls under Student Emergency Services within the Dean of Students office. If a student is in need of using the Outpost, please feel free to send them to our office: SSB 4th Floor.
  • Further, any enrolled student can access the UT Outpost in UA9 (2609 University Ave) during store hours. Currently, the UT Outpost hours are Wednesdays from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM and Thursdays from 2:00-6:00 PM.

LAH Creative Writing Prize

Echo Literary and Arts Magazine is teaming up with Liberal Arts Honors to offer the Second Annual LAH Creative Writing Prize open to current LAH undergraduates. Echo will accept prose submissions no longer than 10 pages double spaced. When submitting, please put “LAH CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST” as the email subject line. Stories submitted for the prize will automatically be considered for publication!

We are also accepting submissions for poetry, photography, and visual art for our regular submissions.

The deadline for all submissions, including the writing contest, is Jan. 19!
