Welcome!
We are the Chemical Engineering Education and Sustainability (CHEES) Research team at the University of Texas at Austin.
Our research purpose is to apply engineering design, process engineering, sustainabilty frameworks, and research-based educational practices to enhance experiential learning and advance the formation of engineering professionals.
Our objectives are to help strengthen the engineering workforce, advance sustainability education, and promote a safe and efficient chemical industry. As we work to improve chemical engineering education, we are guided by the evolving needs of the main stakeholders of the educational experience.
We contribute to engineering education research by studying and improving the training and professional development of engineers, proposing sustainable solutions, and by generating knowledge that helps understand how to be more effective at forming students as they become the leaders of the future.
Our research efforts focus on three main areas:
- Engineering Education
- Sustainability and the integration of sustainability education to the chemical engineering curriculum
- Safety Education
We actively collaborate with industry partners, UT alumni, student organizations, and campus organizations as we work to improve teaching and learning in the UT campus.
Please contact Dr. Landaverde Alvarado if you are interested in learning more about engineering education and our research.
