Welcome!

We are the Chemical Engineering Education and Sustainability (CHEES) Research team at the University of Texas at Austin.

Our primary research purpose is to apply engineering design, process engineering, and chemical engineering research methods to improve engineering education and enhance the formation of engineering professionals. By these efforts, we aim to help strengthen the engineering workforce, advance plastic sustainability, and promote a safe and efficient chemical industry. We are guided by the evolving needs of the main stakeholders of the educational experience and our objective is to continuously improve chemical engineering education.

We contribute to engineering education research by studying and improving the training and professional development of engineers, and by generating knowledge that helps understand how to be more effective at forming students as they become the engineering leaders of the future.

Our research efforts focus on two main areas:

  • Engineering Education
  • Sustainability and the integration of sustainability education to the chemical engineering curriculum

We actively collaborate with industry partners, UT alumni, student organizations, and campus organizations as we work to improve teaching and learning in the UT campus.

Please contact Dr. Landaverde Alvarado if you are interested in learning more about engineering education and our research.
