Welcome!

We are the Chemical Engineering Education and Sustainability (CHEES) Research team at the University of Texas at Austin.

Our research purpose is to understand how engineering students learn and develop the capabilities required in the professional practice of engineering. Our goal is to continuously improve chemical engineering education and to effectively prepare our students with the skills demanded by the modern work environment. We are guided by the evolving needs of the main stakeholders of the educational experience.

We aim to contribute to engineering education by studying and improving the training and professional development of engineers, and by generating knowledge that helps understand how to be more effective at forming students as they become the engineering leaders of the future.

Our research efforts focus on two main areas:

  • Engineering Education
  • Sustainability and the integration of sustainability to the chemical engineering curriculum

We actively collaborate with industry partners, UT alumni, student organizations, and campus organizations as we work to improve teaching and learning in the UT campus.

Please contact Dr. Landaverde Alvarado if you are interested in learning more about engineering education and our research.
