The President’s Award for Global Learning, created by the UT Austin International Board of Advisors, brings a visionary approach to global education through learning by deep engagement. The program provides funding to student teams to take on international projects in the realms of research, social impact, and entrepreneurship.
During the spring of 2019, our interdisciplinary team comprised of four students, one graduate assistant, and three faculty mentors submitted a detailed grant proposal for award consideration. In October 2019, the students had the opportunity to present the project idea in front of a panel of judges, including the UT Executive Director for Presidential Initiatives, Senior Vice Provost for Global Engagement, Dean of the School for Undergraduate Studies, and Associate Dean for Student Affairs. Following this finalist pitch competition, our team was selected as representatives of the South/Southeast Asia and Oceania Region and received a $25,000 grant alongside fully-funded travel to implement the project abroad in Chennai, India.
