Alumni Grows Company by Teaming up with MakerBot
Danielle Applestone, a Ph.D. Graduate of 2012 from Dr. Manthiram’s group at UT-Austin, has continually built success for herself and her colleagues. In 2013, not long after graduating from UT-Austin, Dr. Applestone established Other Machine Company (now Bantam Tools). The company’s focus has been to create desktop manufacturing tools with the features creators need and at a price that even an individual can afford.
After years of persistence and hard work, Dr. Applestone’s company and Desktop Milling Machines have been acquired by Bre Pettis, founder of MakerBot. Where some may see acquisitions as an assimilation of smaller parts, Applestone and Pettis see this as a mutually beneficial relationship that will allow Bantam Tools to further develop its user-centric manufacturing tools.
Congratulations Dr. Applestone! May you continue to find success as you move forward under the new flagship of Bantam Tools.
