In our continued celebration of OA Week, we’d like to draw your attention to some wonderful resources made available by our beloved geology librarian, the late Dennis Trombatore.
The Virtual Landscapes of Texas was a massive effort to compile a collection of mostly public domain works on the early writings of the geology of Texas. It began as a stand alone database in 1996 and then launched as a website in 2011. In 2020, the Virtual Landscapes project was moved to Texas ScholarWorks. The collection makes early Texas surveys, USGS documents, content from the Bureau of Economic Geology, the Texas Water Development Board, and content from the Austin Geological Society available in one location.
Dennis also worked to get some out-of-print or hard to find documents digitized and made available online. Most of these monographs focus on either the University of Texas or Texas geology. Many of the documents are still protected by copyright, but are shared with permission of the copyright owner. Please take a moment to enjoy these excellent online resources on Texas geology.
