Our second open initiative highlight for Open Access Week is the LYRASIS Open Access Community Investment Program (OACIP). The OACIP program exists to provide a framework for collectively funding diamond open access journals (meaning journals that do not collect fees from readers or authors). The program is designed to be sustainable, principle-aligned, inclusive, collaborative, and efficient.
LYRASIS collects information from journals and shares that information with the wider community. Libraries (also academic departments, museums, and institutions) then get to review the information provided and evaluate whether the journals meet the collecting and/or investment goals for their institution. A library can choose to support one or up to all the journals that are part of a given investment window.
