Accelerated Intermittent Theta Burst in Treatment-Naive Adolescents

This study is investigating a drug-free treatment for depression known as transcranial magnetic stimulation or TMS. TMS has been cleared by the FDA to treat depression in adults since 2008. In 2024, TMS was cleared by the FDA to treat adolescent depression. This study is investigating an accelerated and optimized form of TMS in adolescent depression. Participants can earn up to $525 for participation.

See if you are eligible!

We are looking for individuals with depression who:

  • Have received minimal prior treatment for depression
  • Are 13-20 years old
  • Are fluent in English

Participants will receive TMS treatment free of charge and free pictures of their brain know as a magnetic resonance image!

Following the study, you can receive conventional TMS in a commercial clinic if you desire further treatment, but this form of TMS is not otherwise available outside of this study.

Overcoming Barriers to TMS in Spanish-Speaking Communities: A Video Intervention

This study is meant to identify and overcome barriers to transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment in Spanish-speaking communities. To identify these barriers, we are running focus groups in Spanish with Spanish-speakers at risk for mood disorders or with a current mood disorder. Focus group participants will receive $25, and all travel costs will be covered. Focus groups will be video and audio recorded and footage may be used in informational videos.

We will also record one-hour interviews with Spanish-speakers who have received TMS as a treatment. These participants will receive $50 for participation. Data gathered will be used to create informational videos intended to decrease the barriers to TMS in the Spanish-speaking community.

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Group 1: Spanish-speakers who have NOT undergone TMS and are willing to participate in focus groups
  • Group 2: Spanish-speakers who have undergone TMS and are willing to share their experiences
