October 26, 2020, Filed Under: NewsAll Together: Pediatric Specialty Pavilion Underway Groundbreaking, Topped Out, and Planned Completion April 2021 By mid-April 2021, the new Pediatric Specialty Pavilion at Dell Children’s will be open and home to the Dell Medical School Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s program. This new facility, adjacent to Dell Children’s, will provide 40,000 square feet for our program and will house all pediatric neurology, neuropsychology, and neurosurgery faculty, residents, and fellows, as well as our program’s nurse practitioners and our main outpatient clinic space. Additionally, the new facility will provide outpatient eye lanes for pediatric neuro-ophthalmology. For the first time, we will all be together!

Dr. Clarke is the director of the Dell Medical School Pediatric Epilepsy Program at Dell Children’s. The Epilepsy Leadership Council is a coalition of more than 40 professional societies, patient advocacy organizations, and governmental agencies working together to improve the lives of children and adults living with epilepsy. October 20, 2020, Filed Under: NewsWelcome, Dr. Veda Vettaikorumakankav Vedanarayanan, MD, is the newest member of the pediatric neurology faculty at Dell Medical School. Don’t worry — we all call him Dr. Veda. He is a professor in the Department of Neurology and was previously Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he also served as Director of the Division of Neuromuscular Medicine and oversaw the Electromyography and Autonomic Laboratory.Veda completed his child neurology residency at Duke University, and then went on to complete a neuromuscular disease fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. His clinical focus includes nerve and muscle disorders, like spinal muscular atrophy and muscular dystrophy, as well as dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system.Welcome to Texas, Dr. Veda!

Leah Harris, Chair of Pediatrics at Dell Medical School, cut the ribbon on the new 3T MRI Dell Children’s Hospital has completed the installation of the new 3T MRI which will significantly improve the care given by Dell Medical School neurologists and neurosurgeons to children who have suffered a stroke or are being evaluated for surgery for epilepsy or brain tumors. October 13, 2020, Filed Under: NewsDr. Brumback Elected to Board of Directors of the Child Neurology Society Congratulations to Audrey Brumback, MD, PhD, on her election to the Board of Directors of the Child Neurology Society for a two-year term, 2020-2022. The CNS is an academic society of more than 2000 child neurologists in the United States and Canada. The CNS previously awarded Dr. Brumback its prestigious Philip R. Dodge Young Investigator Award to support her research on expanding our understanding of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Yay, Audrey!

Dr. Louisa Keith recently joined the pediatric neurology faculty at Dell Medical School from Boston Children’s Hospital. Keith received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and her Child Neurology Residency at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Keith oversees the cardiac surgery neurological follow-up program at Dell Children’s.

A Texas native, Dr. Freedman received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his medical degree from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Worth. He completed his pediatric and child neurology residencies at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio, where he also completed a fellowship in pediatric epilepsy management. His clinical interests include epilepsy in children and somatoform disorders.

Dr. Calley received his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Dallas and his medical degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio. He completed his pediatric and child neurology residencies at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and most recently completed his epilepsy fellowship also at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Dr. Calley has done research on Gulf War syndrome, and his clinical interests include the use of magnetoencephalography in the assessment of epilepsy in children. Welcome to Austin!
