Facilities

The Photography & Media Area is located on the second floor of the Art Building on the main campus of The University of Texas at Austin. It features a color-managed computer lab, wet darkroom lab with 4×5 enlargers, a finishing area, lighting studio, and seminar room. Available equipment includes film and digital SLRs, medium- and large-format cameras, and studio lighting kits. All undergraduate students enrolled in Photography courses, as well as Photography graduate students, are welcome to use the lab during open hours.

Computer Lab

  • Calibrated iMac computers running the latest OS with Adobe Creative Suite software
  • 2 Flextight scanners
  • 2 Epson V700 flatbed scanners
  • 3 Epson P800 desktop printers
  • Epson 10000 and Epson 9000 44-inch large-format printers

Darkroom

  • 15 stations equipped with Omega ProLab 4×5 enlargers
  • 2 film changing rooms
  • Supplies for sheet and roll film development, print washers, and trays for developing from 8×10 to 30×40 prints
  • Ventilation throughout

Equipment for Checkout

Students currently enrolled in Photography courses can check out equipment for up to 7 days through their class TA. Each student must sign a Conditions of Checkout Agreement and abide by the Late Return Policy.
