UT-Austin has supported graduate studies in Sanskrit and Classical India since the 1960s. With the formation of the Department of Asian Studies in 1994, the University reaffirmed its commitment to Sanskrit as an essential part of graduate training for subject areas related to early historical periods in India. Today, we have faculty who focus on religion, literature, art, history, law, linguistics, and philosophy in classical, medieval, and early modern India.
