Kevin Hart, an American stand-up comedian and movie actor had a major car accident in Calabasas, California Early Sunday, September 8, 2019. He sustained back injuries and was immediately taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. The accident happened when Kevin Hart lost control of the vehicle, it went off the road, and rolled down an embankment.  The crash caused a fracture in the thoracic and lumbar section of the spine. He underwent surgery where both fractures were stabilized and those levels of the spine were fused. It is unclear where there was any actual or potential damage to the spinal cord or peripheral nerves.

Jeff McNeil Hamstring Injury

On August 14, American baseball infielder and outfielder Jeff McNeil injured his left hamstring in a game against the Braves. The injury happened when McNeil sprinted towards the first base in an attempt to make an infield single.  An MRI–which would not typically be obtained for this type of injury–revealed a mild hamstring strain, an injury for which he missed 12 games in May and June. It’s safe to play with a muscle strain. People usually return when they are comfortable enough to be effective. They complete healing over a full year.

Jordan Zimmermann UCL Strain

The Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann left the game due to the elbow discomfort on Friday of April 26th , 2019. An MRI was reported as an ulnar collateral ligament (UCL ) sprain in his right, pitching elbow. As we often discuss on the sports injury blog (elbow problems in throwers), characterizing this as an injury or an acute sprain is inaccurate in throwers.

Zimmermann has also had shoulder and neck pain during his time with the Tigers.

According to team orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Stephen Lemos, Zimmerman will not have elbow surgery.

News reports convey that the team sees it as a hopeful sign that Zimmermann won’t have surgery, but that doesn’t mean that it will be easy to get back to throwing effectively. We’ll have to see how he adapts to these issues.
